Jack “Chief Morale Officer”
Every race team has its ups and downs, and the Mad Cow team is no exception. One way that many professional teams handle the “down” days is to call in the services of an expert. After spending virtually seconds of searching for just the right “pro” to help us feel better about ourselves, we thought of Jack, our lab-mix dog. Now, you might think “Oh, Great! Now they have a dog helping them”. And that would be true. But Jack is not just any dog. He is actually an experienced Chief Morale Officer at another prominent software company (they want to keep this competitive edge to themselves, so they refuse to acknowledge the truth), where he comes in each week to cheer up the troops. The software company employees rave about the work Jack does for them and are even thinking about writing a book about the many things they have learned from Jack, the Chief Morale Officer. For example, one key to a happier life Jack taught the software company team was “Always be happy to meet people. You never know when you might get a treat or something”. So there is a real precedent. At MCM, Jack performs other informal duties in addition to his official ones, like forcing us to keep the fab shop clean (so he won’t start eating shards of fiberglass and stuff), and at road races, guarding the trailer when we are racing. If you are at a road race, or come to the MCM fab shop, and see Jack, the Chief Morale Officer (CMO, in industry-speak), just stop by and introduce yourself. We’re pretty sure you’ll feel better after meeting Jack. |
